| insurance suck |
[Nov. 12th, 2009|11:04 pm] |
Ok, so I have Great West Healthcare (now owned by Cigna), and Medicare. I only have prescription drug coverage through Great West/Cigna.
The Cigna became a larger presence this year and decided that I needed to have pre-authorizations on certain drugs. I take 2 for my migraines (among others for different issues) - Verapamil, and Sumatriptan.
It's the sumatriptan that's been changed. Without the pre-authorization, they will only let me have 9 pills a month, vs the 27 I should be getting (according to my script, at 100mg).
The insurance may not even approve the authorization. They want to know if this is the best therapy for me (yes), make sure that nothing else works (that's affordable? yes), and get this, make sure I'm not abusing the medication.
I can't understand where they'd get the idea that a triptan could be abused? As I have always understood it, if you take too much it will kill you! I mean, really!
On top of all this, since we have been dealing with the remnants of Tropical whatever Ida this week, I've been taking the drug every day this week. (Ok, Sunday was not storm related) I think I may be in rebound from too much medication, and that I will spend the weekend 'drying out'.
I hate having to do that - it means that whatever headache I get, will go without medication while I rid my body of the stuff. The weather is supposed to brighten, as in, no more rain; but we'll see what happens.
Any suggestions on how to get enough medication to last me 30 days? 27 pills could very well be all I get for 90, which is not at all enough. |
